I am Álvaro González, a postdoctoral natural hazards researcher at the CRM Centre for Mathematical Research (Barcelona, Spain), guest researcher at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences (Potsdam, Germany) and guest lecturer at the University of Zaragoza (Spain).
For my current research, I analyse extensive datasets of hazardous phenomena (mostly earthquakes, but also tropical cyclones, wildfires, karstic collapses, rain events and meteorite impacts) to calculate their frequency, their probability to occur in the future, and the costs and casualties they may eventually cause. This contributes to informed decision-making in disaster risk management, working towards a safer world.
I am a vocational educator, with experience teaching Earth sciences in university and high school levels, and a passionate communicator about natural hazards to non-specialist audiences and the general public.
