Introduction
This summer school aims to study problems related to questions of singular integrals in a wide sense, fluid mechanics and other active scalar equations, as well as problems of anisotropic interaction energy minimizers. These energy minimizer questions come from materials science and biological populations.

LECTURERS
Taoufik Hmidi
New York University at Abu Dhabi
Taoufik Hmidi earned his PhD from Ecole Polytechnique Palaiseau. After that he held an associate professor position at the Université de Rennes. His research interests focus on exploring several aspects of geophysical flows, such as vortex dynamics and the emergence of relative equilibria in turbulent flows. He is also interested in the well posedness/blow up theory, incompressible and inviscid limits for several Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations.
Daniel Faraco Hurtado
Universidad Autónoma de Madrid – ICMAT
Daniel Faraco Hurtado completed his PhD at the University of Helsinki under Kari Astala, focusing on quasiconformal functions, calculus of variations, and material science applications. He then joined S. Müller’s group at the Max Planck Institute for Applied Mathematics in Leipzig. After his postdoc, he became a Ramón y Cajal fellow and has been a professor of Applied Mathematics at UAM since 2020.
In 2012, he received an ERC Consolidator Grant on “Geometric Function Theory, Inverse Problems, and Fluid Dynamics.” He currently leads the UAM Nodes of Quamap (ERC Advance Grant) and Agapi (2022-2026) and heads the Inverse Problems and Mechanics group. He is also on the executive committee of ICMAT.
His research lies at the intersection of mathematical analysis and applied mathematics, focusing on quasiconformal functions, vectorial calculus of variations and nonlinear elasticity, inverse problems, and fluid mechanics turbulence.
Peter Constantin
Princeton University
Peter Constantin is the John von Neumann Professor of Mathematics and Applied and Computational Mathematics at Princeton University and the Director of the Program of Applied and Computational Mathematics. Constantin obtained his PhD in 1981 at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem under the direction of Shmuel Agmon with a dissertation on scattering for Schrodinger operators. Prior to coming to Princeton, Constantin was a Louis Block Distinguished Service Professor at The University of Chicago and the Chair of the Mathematics Department there. Constantin was a speaker at the International Congress of Mathematical Physics, Paris 1994, the International Congress of Mathematicians, Zurich 1994, and the International Congress of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Edinburgh 1999. He is a ISI highly cited researcher, a Fellow of the London IOP, a SIAM Fellow, and Inaugural AMS Fellow, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Constantin works on Partial Differential Equations with emphasis on equations arising in nonlinear and statistical physics, and in particular on Euler, Navier-Stokes and related equations of fluid mechanics.
In relation to the Hidden Symmetries project, Constantin works on mathematical relevant questions of existence, regularity, uniqueness, qualitative properties, approximation and stability of solutions of MHD equations.
