Abstract

It’s been nearly two years since the first Barcelona Computational and Systems Neuroscience Meeting (BARCSYN2011) and we’re ready to do it again.  Cross out the 13th and 14th of June, 2013  on  your calendars and look forward to a laid back yet intellectually invigorating meeting with fellow Barcelona researchers at the Institut d’Estudis Catalans.

For those who did not make it two years ago and for whom this year’s BARCSYN will be their first, it is a great opportunity to find out what’s going on in the computational and systems neuroscience community right here in Barcelona.  You may just be surprised at the reach and breadth of research happening a stone’s throw from you.  It’s also an opportunity to let others know what you are doing.

The scientific program will be roughly as in 2011.  As before, we  will do our utmost to accomodate one talk per research group.  For those who presented in 2011, we strongly encourage having a postdoc or student give a talk this time around.  In the event that there are just too many talks to fit into two days we will contact  you personally to work something out.  Any additional presentation overflow will go into one or perhaps two poster sessions, depending  on the number of submissions.  We foresee ten brief, 20-25 minute talks per day as well as a keynote lecture the afternoon of the 13th.  The registration includes  lunch both days, coffee breaks and refreshments in the afternoon.

Keynote Speaker

Gonzalo de Polavieja, Cajal Institute

Decision making in animal groups

Abstract: Social animals learn and decide in groups. I will describe a natural extension of the theory of decision-making to the case of animal groups and compare it against experimental data. I will also describe a new tracking system that can follow animals in groups and how it can give new types of data. Finally, I will briefly discuss ways in which we can combine these behavioral studies with studies of neuronal circuits.
